Cookie policy - Give a Day
In this policy, Give a Day explains how and with which technology information is collected on its website www.giveaday.be and www.giveaday.lu from persons who (simply) visit its website. This is mainly done by means of so-called cookies. Certain cookies are necessary for the website and its security to work properly. You cannot disable them. For the other cookies, we ask your permission. If you have not agreed to them, they will not be placed.
Why do we ask your permission nonetheless?
- Preference cookies allow us to remember some of your preferences (such as your language preference) so that we do not have to ask for your preferences every time that you visit our website.
- Analytical cookies do not have an immediate benefit for you but allow us (and the dedicated platforms of our partners such as local governments and organisations) to measure which elements of our platform work better and which do not work or not as well. This way, we can improve our website by focusing on what matters.
We do not really know who you are, but our platform does know that you are the same person who logged in x days ago.
That was the short version, here is the long(er) version:
1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?
This is a general explanation about cookies. If you know what they are, you can skip this section.
Cookies are small data or text files that websites place on your local computer. The content of a cookie usually consists of the name of the server that placed the cookie, an expiration date and a unique numeric code. Cookies (and those who place the cookies) cannot access other information that is on your computer or mobile device.
Cookies generally make the interaction between visitors and the website possible. In general, they make the surfing experience on the website easier and faster and they help visitors navigate between the different parts of the website. However, cookies can also be used to personalize the content of the website or advertisement on it to the user or to tell parties such as Google or Facebook which websites and pages you visit.
There are different types of cookies that can be used for different things.
- Temporary and permanent cookies: Temporary cookies are stored temporarily in your browser. They are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Permanent cookies remain in your browser, even when you close it. They provide recognition on your next visit and remain in your browser until they expire, until a new version of the cookies is installed or until you delete them from your browser via your browser settings.
- Essential and non-essential cookies: Necessary or essential cookies are required to browse our site and use our apps. For example, these cookies are needed to verify your identity when you sign in, before we give you access to your personal account. Essential cookies do not require permission from the site owner. They also cannot be deleted if you want to continue to use the website. Without them, the site wouldn't work. For all other cookies, the owner of a site must in principle ask permission. For this, you will usually see a pop-up.
- First-party and third-party cookies: First-party cookies are cookies that are managed by the owner of the site and are specific to the visited website. Third-party cookies are cookies placed and managed by a third party during your navigation on the website. Third-party cookies ensure that certain data is sent to third parties while you are browsing our site. Since those third parties (such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft and LinkedIn) process (also) the data collected through the cookies for their own purposes (e.g. advertising), it is important that you read their cookie policy and privacy statement so that you can consent to those cookies in full knowledge of the facts.
If you are interested in learning more about cookies, you can find more information on the Internet, for example on allaboutcookies.org or wikipedia.org (by searching the term “cookie”).
